We had Imogen who took us to an old period movie theatre for our own private showing of Anthropoid. Beforehand, we had a long discussion with Imogen where she filled us in on the historical and political context that led to the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia and Heydrich’s rise to rule the Protectorate.
I was really curious, and Imogen answered all my questions with really great, in-depth knowledge. What I loved most about this tour is that she clearly had done her own independent research about the topic. Asking her a question wasn’t like asking a tour guide who had just been taught a bunch of facts; she clearly had conducted nuanced and considered analysis on the research which I really appreciated.
Watching the movie in this setting and then going to the places depicted in it – culminating at the crypt where the parachutists made their last stand – was a chilling way to experience this story. It feels more real and dramatic than any traditional tour.
I love the Naked Tour Guide tours. I’ve also done the Prague Castle at Night tour and it was one of the best tours I’ve ever done of any city. My family have lived in Prague for 14 years and yet whenever I go on one of these tours, I always discover something new about the city. By far the best tour company in the city!Fraser
In light of the subject matter, this is a very enlightening and enjoyable tour!! The tour starts at a small theater in the Zizkov District of Prague. Very easy to get to from central Prague by taxi or tram. You are welcomed into a 1930s theater to watch the movie, but prior to that Marcus sets up the movie with historical details that are easily overlooked yet so helpful in preparing you for the movie viewing. The theater itself is wonderful, kept to period decor and has a fantastic bar from beer to tea and coffee, you are taken care of. Following the movie, Marcus then leads about a 20 minute Q/A about the movie and debunking what is historical fact from Hollywood fiction! We then set off to see some important sites relative to the actual operation and referenced in the movie. If you are remotely interested in WWII or seen the movie or haven’t don’t miss this tour!!Kim
Marcus met us at a local independent movie theater (which I plan to revisit for some great movies!) and discussed some historical background about the true story of the two parachuters during WWII who assassinated Heydrich, Hitler’s right hand man. We then watched the disturbing but important film and discussed more and asked a zillion questions – which Marcus answered. He then took us on a tour through Prague to some of the most relevant sites from the movie. Marcus is knowledgeable in his quiet and friendly manner. It is a moving and important tour to take for both locals and visitors to Prague. I highly recommend it.Sharon
I just took the first “Anthropoid Tour” that Marcus has offered and was very impressed. He took about 20 minutes to set the movie up with an easy to understand history, showed the 2016 version of the movie in a 1930’s cinema theater and then took us to some of the places featured in the movie.
During the tour, he handled a breadth of questions related to those difficult days factually but with language that would be easy for anyone to follow.
I highly recommend this tour. It will probably take about 4-5 hours depending on your questions and pace. Just one final thing that those with small children might want to consider; the 2016 version of the movie is realistic and intense.Greg
